Technology creates a state-of-the-art reprogrammable immersive theater in a sensory space of 360º sight, sound and scale.
Download ProfileIlluminarium is an experience like no other. It immerses guests with innovative multi-sensory content where sights, sounds and sensations come together in a 360º - 30,000 square feet sensory space. It’s virtual reality, but not as we know it. Illuminarium is VR without glasses powered by the world’s most advanced projection, audio and control systems.
An Illuminarium is a 30,000 square feet space with 2 immersive ‘rooms’ for large-scale spectacles and an after-dark bar experience, a retail space, café area, ticketing lobby and outdoor dining space. The innovative technology infrastructure has been engineered to accommodate any kind of experiential content – a truly reprogrammable theater.
Designed by LAB at Rockwell Group in partnership with Disguise, Panasonic, HOLOPLOT, Powersoft, Ouster, Radical Media and more, Electrosonic provided audiovisual integration services that took Illuminarium’s creative vision from concept to practical reality. The result is a massive, flexible sensory space that raises the bar for immersive experiences.
Electrosonic integrated a reprogrammable infrastructure that incorporates innovative technologies from leaders in their field. Video content comes to life on walls 22 feet high driven by the world’s most advanced 4K projectors from Panasonic delivering up to 3 billion pixels.
The rich spatial audio system by HOLOPLOT uses innovative 3D beam-forming technology to recreate a full 3D soundscape that is personalized to each visitor. Low-frequency haptic speakers from Powersoft built into the floor create rumbling effects that enhance the guest experience.
Ouster’s LIDAR sensing technology tracks guests’ movements to add interactivity to the experience by enabling content to respond to individual movements. Illuminarium also features advanced scent technology to add authentic smells to the sensory experience.
The first Illuminarium experience ‘WILD’, ‘transports’ guests into the heart of a safari on the African plains. Guests ‘walk with wildlife’, tremble as the ground rumbles to the sound of an approaching elephant and react to the sound of hundreds of birds taking flight.
Illuminarium offers remarkable versatility. It is described as a reprogrammable immersive theater. At night, the space transforms into an immersive bar experience where guests are surrounded by ever-changing visual and audio environments on a massive scale.
Illuminarium wanted to create a flexible, reprogrammable technology infrastructure for fully immersive experiences that go beyond the limits of conventional virtual reality – a shared social experience without headsets or glasses. The goal was to integrate class-leading 4K projection, spatial audio, low-frequency Haptic Infrasound and Lidar-driven interactive technologies in a 360º canvas.
While most experiences feature one of those advanced technologies in a project, Illuminarium uses all of them, so it was a first-of-a-kind challenge.
Electrosonic pushed the boundaries of the technologies to design and engineer an infrastructure for multi-sensory experiences that was like nothing before. We worked with creative partners from the outset, providing projection studies and detailed engineering for the whole audiovisual system, including show spaces and front and back of house spaces. Electrosonic served as a single point of coordination to bring all the visionary cutting-edge technologies together and integrate them in a way that creates a unique entertainment environment.
An Illuminarium represents a new kind of platform for storytelling where guests become part of the spectacle. Illuminarium brings together the world’s most advanced technologies with the talents of designers, content producers, projection and audio specialists and system integrators in a collaborative team.
