Inspiring and engaging sports fans with an immersive, interactive experience and innovative technology.
Download ProfileCanadians have a huge passion for sports of all kinds. Showcasing a huge range of sports was challenging, but Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame achieved it in style with 11 immersive, interactive galleries covering 58 different sports in a 40,000 square feet exhibition space. Designers Cambridge Seven Associates working with Electrosonic and Cortina Productions aimed to convey the excitement of the sports through innovative audiovisual, lighting and interactivity. However, space and height restrictions introduced significant technical challenges.
Hero Stations, for example, required LED-lit LCD displays. Carefully engineered custom projection and surface solutions were required for overhead displays in the Ring of Sports. The designers wanted interactive solutions allowing visitors to ‘participate’ in ski-jumping, ice hockey or baseball activities. A long, narrow entry tunnel created opportunities to display curling and swimming, but within a difficult projection surface, while the Water Sports Gallery required a display that created the illusion of being under water.
Electrosonic developed more than 50 interactive displays, together with multimedia walls and innovative projection solutions that made the most effective use of challenging surfaces such as ceilings, curved walls or long, narrow spaces. Sophisticated techniques such as 3D Blu-ray players, sensor interfaces and ultra-slim displays based on LED-lit LCD modules create exciting new experiences. Sophisticated audio throughout and dynamic video content add to the immersive multi-level experience.
Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame has been an outstanding success, attracting and inspiring thousands of visitors and winning a prestigious award from the Themed Entertainment Association. The innovative use of interactive, immersive technology helps bring the reality of sport and athletes’ achievements to life and meets the organizers’ vision – to give all Canadians a way to embrace the country’s physically competitive spirit as their own.
Interactive activities, overhead displays, ‘underwater’ imagery, sports simulations — Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame has it all.
