INTRODUCTION

The StoryGarden by Amorepacific has taken the traditional concept of a factory tour and transformed it into the ‘Story Garden’ - an interactive, multisensory and multimedia experience that engages visitors with light, surround sound and touch.

The expansive campus features two theater spaces and fourteen galleries surrounded by lush botanical gardens. The result is an award-winning immersive experience that creates a strong emotional bond between brand and customer.

Electrosonic partnered with BRC Imagination Arts, Smart Monkeys and 7th Sense to design and support the sophisticated audiovisual systems that blend digital exhibits, immersive media, video, interpretive art installations and original music and songs into an inspiring brand story for this popular Korean global cosmetics corporation.

OVERVIEW

The StoryGarden traces AmorePacific’s story and reflects the company’s commitment to nature and plant based ingredients. Visitors enter the 15,000 square feet campus through lush botanical gardens, contemporary art installations, galleries and contemplative spaces.

Inside are two theater spaces, four galleries with video elements and background music and ten galleries with background music only.

The ‘Gift of Beauty’ gallery features a spectacular immersive experience where ten projectors present a 270º panorama, enveloping visitors on three sides with stunning imagery. The accompanying soundtrack comes from a six-channel, 15-loudspeaker surround-sound system. 

In the ‘Beauty Transforms Our World’ theater center-blended projectors create an imaginative three-wall display featuring a three-dimensional sculptural flower head at its center. Careful projector positioning and blending mitigates shadows on the blossom.

The ‘Gift of Inspiration – Openness’ gallery features looped media playing in a wooden framework dome structure with an oval screen attached to one interior wall and ceiling mounted speakers. The ‘Gift of Inspiration – Innovation’ gallery has three wall panels configured with video monitors and colored geometric blocks that resemble contemporary stained-glass windows.

CHALLENGE

The owners wanted to create an immersive experience that would reflect its brand values while retaining a human touch. The challenge was to blend technology with architecture and storytelling to create immersive themed experiences throughout the guided tour.

Some experiences required complex projection solutions, such as the 270º ten-projector panoramic immersive show or the projection-blended three-dimensional flower. The system had to be easy to control, with guides launching shows during the tour.

SOLUTION

Electrosonic worked with its ecosystem of specialist partners and equipment suppliers to overcome technical challenges and optimize performance and reliability. BrightSign players are mounted local to every display, for example, to maximize image resolution and minimize cable runs. Professional audio and projection equipment from leading suppliers such as 7th Sense, Christie, Samsung and Alcorn McBride is used throughout to ensure reliability and minimize maintenance requirements.
