Celebrating the history, science and legends of golf with audiovisual technology.

The United States Golf Association (USGA) is the governing body of golf for the US and Mexico. When the association relocated the World Golf Hall of Fame to Pinehurst, North Carolina, it took the opportunity to deploy the latest audiovisual (AV) technologies to tell the story of golf and celebrate the legends of the sport. Digital displays, wayfinding, directional audio and dynamic multimedia content engage, educate and inspire visitors of every age.

Large-scale video walls, a theater and 160 interactive lockers reveal the skills and dedication it takes to become an inductee to the Hall of Fame, while an interactive touch table and touch screens uncover the science behind great golf shots. The exhibits weave golf’s history, the science and legends of the sport into a compelling narrative that brings more than 3,000 artifacts to life.

Electrosonic worked in partnership with the USGA and multiple project and technology partners, including Luci Creative to bring the creative vision to reality, taking responsibility for AV design, build and support.

Bringing the story of golf to a digital-first generation

USGA’s role is to unify, showcase, govern and advance the sport of golf through innovation in equipment and course design. To meet that goal, the USGA Experience & World Golf Hall of Fame doesn’t just celebrate golf legends; it aims to explain the association’s long-term commitment and contribution to the golfing community and foster interest in the sport among a wider audience.

When bringing their new facility to life, USGA recognized that static exhibits alone would not be enough. Technology would be essential to explain complex concepts such as the physics behind a golf swing or the flight of a ball, while telling stories behind golfing legends. The AV installations had to engage and appeal to a new generation of visitors familiar with digital technology and with high expectations of great experiences.

To meet those requirements, USGA needed a partner with expertise in the design, build and support of Hall of Fame experiences and the ability to collaborate with a team of designers, content producers and exhibition specialists.

Seamless collaboration with partners delivered a large-scale complex project.

Electrosonic is highly experienced in designing, building and supporting custom, large-scale Hall of Fame solutions. These complex projects require high levels of collaboration with clients and partners as well as an ability to create robust, reliable, easy-to-use AV solutions delivered by comprehensive services at every stage.

At the Design stage, Electrosonic collaborated with Available Light, Clearscapes, Luci Creative and RLMG. Electrosonic provided Technology Design Consulting services covering Audiovisual and Control System Design, Digital Communications & Media Walls, Immersive Technologies, Specialty Projection and Audio.

Electrosonic created technical renderings that captured every detail of the planned installation, helped clarify complex design decisions and acted as a blueprint for all project teams.

At the Build stage, Electrosonic provided System Integration services, including Detailed Engineering, CAD & BIM Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, Installation & Integration, System Commissioning & Programming, Content Distribution, Media Management, Documentation Management and Project Management.

To ensure the solution continues to operate reliably in a busy environment, Electrosonic provided Support Services, including Training and Warranty Support.

Audiovisual solutions tell USGA’s story in a compelling way.

Electrosonic has delivered many award-winning Hall of Fame projects, including the New Jersey Hall of Fame, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, and National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. Our solution for the USGA Experience & World Golf Hall of Fame delivered the vision for an engaging, inspiring experience that honors the legends of the sport and enables USGA to showcase golf to a wider audience.

AV and interactive technologies take visitors behind the scenes to help them understand the levels of skill, talent and dedication it takes to play the ‘perfect round’ or reach the Hall of Fame. For example, visitors can explore the achievements of individual inductees by interacting with audio and other content at each of the 160 ‘lockers’. They can test their own golfing skills on an interactive touch table that allows them to simulate and track a shot.

The user-friendly AV installations encourage golfers - and people new to the sport - to dive deep into the history, story and science of the game with technology that is familiar and appealing to a digital generation. As USGA CEO Mike Davis commented, “We are taking a bold step forward and forging a long-term commitment that will elevate our championships, foster greater innovation in golf, and ultimately help grow the game.”

CHAMPIONSHIP THEATER

Projected content explores the journey to a championship for players and organizers.

As visitors enter the USGA Experience, they encounter a small theater on the ground floor where a film introduces the champions who contributed to golf’s history and legacy. A Christie Digital ceiling projector displays the video while surround sound delivers an immersive audio experience. Visitors can access interactive displays to learn about the journey top golfers follow to qualify for championship events and discover how organizers prepare championship courses. Digital displays on the walls of the theater, portraits of famous golfers and replica championship trophies complete the immersive environment.

SCIENCE OF GOLF

Interactivity brings to life the science that drives advances in golf.

Before you hit the Science of Golf exhibit, you will see an 8-foot interactive table, visitors discover the science behind trophy-winning shots and test their own skills in estimating the trajectory of different golf swings. Large graphic wall displays incorporating circular video screens surround the table providing detailed information about USGA’s initiatives to advance the game.

PATH TO GREATNESS

Compelling video highlights what it takes to make the Hall of Fame.

Moving to the World Golf Hall of Fame on the upper floor, visitors first encounter a curved video wall introducing the development of the hall of fame. In the center of the atrium is a 38 x 7' large curved video wall by topped by immersive and directional audio system to create an immersive space – Path to Greatness.

Here, a multimedia program highlights the outstanding skills and personality traits that shape a Hall of Famer and distinguish them from other players.

LOCKER ROOM

Interactive lockers share the memories and mementoes of the legends.

Beyond the atrium is the ‘Locker Room’ where visitors can interact with 160 glass-fronted lockers displaying memorabilia from the careers of golfing legends. The lockers incorporate Pana displays with directional audio to fully immerse guests in the experience.

Visitors can interact with the displays to find out more about their achievements or listen to their recorded memories. Visitors can also access additional information about each player via the mobile app.
