Recognition by the Premier AV Industry Awards

The AV Awards have firmly established themselves as the unrivaled badge of excellence for the audiovisual industry. For more than 25 years, they have represented the benchmark for the highest possible professional standards and best practice, recognizing the outstanding achievements of individuals, companies, projects and technology across the AV industry.

McChesney added, “The AV Awards are renowned for rewarding AV excellence and innovation, and we’re proud to continue our role in this premier program. Having won five of the last six years, we’re excited to once again join our industry colleagues to celebrate and share our successes.”

Unveiling an Award-Winning Experience

View Boston, a 59,000-square-foot observation deck at Boston’s iconic Prudential Center, invites guests on an immersive journey across two floors. Experiential elevators, dedicated welcome and finale areas and breathtaking views combined with interactive exhibits create a vibrant, highly personalized visitor experience.

The journey begins on the ground floor, where digital signage at the entrance and ticketing area highlights Boston’s most iconic attractions. From there, guests ascend 52 floors via an immersive elevator ride. On the 52nd floor, guests interact with 32-inch touchscreen viewers, allowing them to pinpoint specific locations across the city. Using a barcode reader, guests can add points of interest to a personalized itinerary by scanning their entry ticket.

At the Boston 365 exhibit, guests encounter a 50-foot-wide 3D model of the city, where projection mapping brings Boston’s stories to life in continuous narrative loops. Nearby, the Explore Boston exhibit features fourteen LED touchscreens where guests can further explore Boston’s neighborhoods and attractions.

In the Open Doors theater, a 270-degree immersive experience awaits, combining five projectors and a 6.2 sound system to present a compelling 18k resolution short film. The journey concludes in the Finale space, where guests can complete their itineraries at one of twelve kiosks equipped with touchscreens and barcode readers.

View Boston showcases how groundbreaking experiential design, innovative engineering, seamless integration, rigorous testing and close collaboration with partners created an experience that sets new standards for entertainment and recreation venues.

Meeting Tough Criteria

The AV Awards are the biggest and the best. They don’t just recognize outstanding achievements across the AV industry; they aim to promote best practice and excellence. To merit an award, projects like View Boston have to meet tough criteria, including:

  • Evidence of innovation - What’s new and exciting about the project?
  • What has the project helped customers achieve?
  • Impact of the project - What effect has the project made on the customer’s business?
  • How has it delivered user benefits?
  • What are its sustainability credentials?

Sean McChesney added, “We’re proud that View Boston could meet the challenging requirements of the AV Awards. The criteria reflect what owners and visitors now expect from an entertainment venue and the standards keep getting higher. Although we’ve had success through the years, we know we have to keep innovating and pushing the boundaries to create a winning technology solution.”

Experience and Collaboration are Key

Electrosonic is highly experienced in designing, building and supporting observation deck experiences like View Boston, which joins other award-winning projects at Summit One Vanderbilt and One World Observatory in New York City.

The scale and complexity of View Boston’s installations demanded close collaboration with experience designers, content providers, technology partners and owners BXP throughout the project, ensuring technical continuity and delivering a seamless, fully integrated solution.

As Vicky Plestis, Development Project Manager, BXP commented, “I think Electrosonic was the glue that stitched these pieces together... all of their work cuts across each and every exhibit.”

A Team Effort

The success of View Boston came from fantastic collaboration among our client BXP, our partners Christie Digital, Float4, FrankNDesign, JRA, Lightborne, Nanolumens, 7thSense and Electrosonic’s team, including Joel Zink (Senior Design Consultant), Jackson Benedict (Account Manager), Alyssa Giacomucci (Project Manager), Neil Castiello (Project Manager), Jason Ford (Engineer), Jim Funk (Engineer), Jim Notar (Engineer, Projection), Jeff Paton (Site Manager), Pamela Gelvez-Sanchez (Project Coordinator) and more.
