Interactive AV experiences improve the passenger journey, and that was evident at this year’s Skytrax Awards. Hamad International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport were both recognized among the World’s Best Airports of 2024. The prestigious awards, decided by customers world-wide, are highly regarded as a global standard of airport excellence.

Hamad International Airport, voted Best Airport in the World, has been described as the most architecturally significant terminal complex in the world, as well as being the most luxurious.

Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A was named as the World’s Best New Terminal of 2024. The terminal was earlier awarded a coveted 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating. The 5-Star Terminal Rating recognizes airport terminals that provide exceptional standards of facilities and staff service to customers across all front-line areas of the airport environment.

Hamad International Airport

At Hamad International Airport, Electrosonic partnered with Moment Factory, Smart Monkeys, AV Stumpfl/Pixera and TAV Technologies to design a video and control system and content management system to drive a dynamic display of digital art that engages and inspires travelers.

The ‘digital ribbon’, designed by Moment Factory, stretches 1.2 kilometers across two stories in the heart of the terminal. The ultra-high-resolution LED ribbon features over 169 million pixels of animation power that enhance the travel experience. Every hour, the ribbon synchronizes with other displays around the terminal to create a moment of magical transformation.

The ribbon showcases digital art and surreal graphics inspired by Qatari architecture, culture and landmarks. The digital content of the ribbon plays a pivotal placemaking role in elevating Doha and Qatar as sought-after destinations.

Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A takes travelers on an immersive ‘Journey of Surprises’ that features large-scale multimedia installations throughout the terminal. Travelers encounter a 230-foot LED welcome banner, a ‘Forest of Firsts’ LED pylons, a 12-foot-high ‘NJ’ digital sculpture and 33 informative, fun triangular LED gateway pylons.

Moment Factory led the creative work and design intent which Electrosonic realized through complex engineering, build, integration and support. Installing and integrating the massive installations across a space of more than one million square feet required advanced engineering skills to control all the multimedia content, route cabling efficiently with minimal disruption to terminal operations and ensure continuous reliable operation.

Placemaking content blends entertainment with operational information enhancing passenger satisfaction. The 'Journey of Surprises’ transforms the passenger experience, providing information, entertainment and fun for travelers throughout their time at the terminal. The impact on passenger experience is so strong that the installations are now considered mission-critical.

In addition to Moment Factory, Electrosonic partnered with Nanolumens, AV Stumpfl/ Pixera and Smart Monkeys to realize the vision of Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A.
